XM Radio Online streaming quit working

I have been using XM Radio Online (XMRO) ever since I installed Windows 7, a month or two ago, and it always worked fine. If anyone out there is familiar with it, basically you log into XM's site and launch the app, which loads a player (Windows Media Player) at the top right.

Anyway, now I can't get anything. I know it's connecting because after I log in I can *see* what's playing on every channel. If I press the PLAY button repeatedly, on certainly channels I will get a guy's voice saying "The URL you are attempting to use to access this media is invalid. Please contact your content provider ..." blah blah blah.

This is happening in IE8, so I installed Firefox but it happens in that browser too.

However, I can go downstairs and log in on my wife's computer (Vista) and it plays every channel just fine, just like it used to for me.

I've called XM (which, if you're curious, has about the worst customer service in the world) and they did make some adjustments to my account. There is a lot of stuff going on right now with XM and their merge with Sirius, and they did make some changes to their online service. I think my problems may have started at about that same time (I glean this from an XM Radio forum).

But I know that my problem on W7/IE8 is not related to that because, as I said, it's working fine on our other PC. Also, the lady I spoke with at XM said she was able to log in as me and that it worked.

Someone, the streaming media is just not coming through anymore in Windows 7. I don't really know what to do. I've deleted history and cookies.

Any suggestions?

Or have you paid the subscription?

No no no. I am a paid subscriber. I've been using it for months.

I am having the same issue

It uses windows media player as i am sure you all already know, i can stream other online radio sites that also use the same windows media player and both with firefox and ie8. Can't wait for someone to figure this one out!!

Have you checked your anti-virus and/or firewall to make sure the internet stream is being allowed?

sure did disabled all antivirus and disabled my firewall. i can stream other online radio feeds with no problem, i can also stream from my xm account from other computers. it is a strange issue!!

Not the answer you want but why not use something like SQUEEZEBOX.

Works a treat -- and streams your OWN music as well. Can play FLAC codecs natively straight out of the box, has OPTICAL as well as analog out, can connect to your Router either wirelessly or via LAN.

I like this system a lot since you can listen ANYWHERE you feed your receiver into.

Currently enjoying WGBN Boston classical music station at HIGH QUALITY.

No subscription needed for ZILLIONS and ZILLIONS of radios stations workdwide. And being able to stream your own music is also great.

No spam: I have been using a the XM Online Radio gadget (Build A Gadget | XM Online Radio) and experienced the same issue this weekend. So, I tried Windows Media Player (ver 12.x) but XM Radio is not listed as an online store as in the previous versions. I tried to browse to the URL (XM Satellite Radio - America's #1 Satellite Radio Service and also player.xmradio.com) but it still would not play.

I am interested any any solutions provided as well.
