Update. The cloning feature in Aomei Backuper was successful in moving Windows 8 to my SSD and it boots up just fine.

Backuper is a newer product.

I don't normally do cloning - I prefer Image and restore (that way you already have the image backed should you need it again).

I assume Backuper is changing the disk id's and updating all the bcd stores at the end of the restore process. That makes sense. Windows won't change anything then.


I understand from Aomei they will be including the new winpe making in Partition Assistant - perhaps it will have a general overhaul as well.

I do both cloning and imaging. I have a fair number of SATA HDDs, so I have the luxury of being able to have cloned copies of both my Windows 7 and 8 installations on spare drives. It might seem a bit overboard, but I like the extra layer of security it gives.

Thanks for the heads up of on Partition Assistant. I will be on the look out for that.
