I have an XP SP3 desktop and a Windows 7 (32 bit) laptop connected via a Linksys router. If I turn off the XP's Windows firewall, the laptop can access the shared resources on the XP (files, printers), but with it turned on, nothing. Any advice/help is greatly appreciated.

This is default. If you have the IP address of your Win 7 machine, add it in the exclude list in XP Firewall. You will be able to access it.

I can only see how I can add port exceptions; how do I add IP address exceptions?

What Port is Windows 7 Using for File Sharing with XP

Hi Guys,

I have 2 computers in my network. One is Windows 7, the other is Windows XP. I'd like to share the printer on my XP computer with the Windows 7 machine.

If I turn off the firewall on the XP machine, then the Windows 7 machine can access the shared folders on the XP machine. This is great, but I want the firewall on.

I assume that I just need to open a port or two in the Windows Firewall on the XP machine, but I do not know which ports to open. All of the options under File and Printer Sharing are checked.

Can someone send me a list of ports used by Windows 7 File Sharing.

Thanks
Pete
