I know this is a windows 7 forum but anyway, I'm trying to re-install xp on my compaq presario v6130us but whenever the computer restarts to continue with the installation, I get this Compaq PC Recovery window that pops up and makes me insert Recovery Disk 1 which I don't have. Is there any way I can just skip this step and continue with the XP installation?

Probably not, but I am not really familiar with XP - too old.

Are you running Factory Recovery by tapping the F11 key at bootup? What choices are you then given for Recovery? It may be failing which is why it is prompting for disks.

Can you locate a Win7 OEM (preferably Compaq) install CD for your version of XP? If so, you can clean reinstall without the factory bloatware using the Product Key on COA sticker.

If you do this, I would delete all partitions during install, repartition and full format. You can even wipe your HD to get it cleanest, overwriting any possibly infected or corrupt code. http://www.dban.org/download
