I have an HP i did the factory restore for a customer since there machine was totaly fubar. Everything worked fine, i installed anti virus did a few tweaks and updated to SP3.

I left it on overnight and when i got up it had a error that said something about system volume information and a file corrupt. So i did the chkdsk and when it restarted it seems to give a quick bsod and restart. I tried safe mode, Last known config and it just keeps restarting.

I know this is a 7 forum, but its a helpful forum so i figured i would post. I can always find a universal forum if this is not allowed.

If you have the original install disc of the operating system I would try booting from the CD and doing a repair install. It's possible that a file just got missed during the restore.
