New system: Asus P8Z68-V, i7-2600K, Windows Pro 64-bit, Norton 360

Every time I try to download XP mode, I get:
"Windows validation required"
Then it goes to "Downloads Windows Activation Update."
It runs the update and says the system is already updated
It returns to "Windows validation required." Again and again.

I have tried Firefox and IE8. Same problem with both.
I just moved from Home Premium to Pro. I'm annoyed big time.

What's the solution?

This is probably the fault of Norton - it may be disabling the background validation.
First try resetting your IE Security settings to default, and rebooting - then if still not successful, try validating Windows at www.microsoft.com/genuine/validate and see what happens - you may be pointed towards the Diagnostics page www.microsoft.com/genuine/diag which can tell you what's going wrong a lot of the time, otherwise post back with details of what happens, and an MGADiag report.

(and yes - I do realise that it's an old thread, but since no-one has responded, it may help others in similar situauions, even if the OP has fixed the problem)

Indeed, Norton 360 was the problem. I disabled it temporarily and then had no problems.

Thanks for the feedback! - nice to know that I was right, even if a few weeks late <g>

Hopefully no-one will need to hang around for so long in future.

Good Luck!
