XP Mode and old devices...

Hi again people!!!

I'm planning to install XP Mode, but I'm unsure if this will work for me... I know I got an unsuported version of W7 (Home Premium) but I can upgrade whenever I need it (I have a serial file that was given to me in my work, so I can test the different versions easily)... What really matters to me is that I have 2 USB devices (My USB web Camera and Printer, the first, a Logitech QuickCam Express and the secons a Compaq IJ600...) and a parallel port scanner (Canon CanoScan N340P)... Can I use my parallel port scanner on XP mode? I know I need to install the drivers... but... parallel port works on XP mode? could that virtualization solution use my parallel port and finally being able to use my device and getting rid of my current dual boot setting?

The only sure fire way to make a non USB device work with XP mode is to get a USB adapter for it.

XP mode cannot share FireWire or serial ports.

In terms of getting XP mode you will have to get at least Pro which as an anytime upgrade is about the same price as retail.

So using the USB adapter will gat the parallel scanner working on it? I guess that installing the drivers in the XP VM will get the device fully working then... fantastic!!!!

I'll try to see if I can find a paralell to USB adapter.

Virtual box is to be avoided at all costs at the moment because they've basically put it back into beta.

VB could do exactly the same thing but it is much less stable at the moment and it's intergration features are not as well suited for this type of thing.

Quick Question: Do you still have those CD Disk Drivers of your peripherals? (Printer & Camera) if not, you should search thier drivers for Windows XP whatever brand is your Camera & Printer is.

Yes I do, I got the latest XP drivers for the camera (And the original CD for the scanner), for the printer, I think I don't need it since XP has integrated drivers for it (In my dual boot, XP recognized and installed the printer without any help from me... Win7 couldn't because it has no integrated drivers... that's why I need the virtualization solution )
