In Windows 7, I got both my home WiFi router as Public (as opposed to Home, Work, and Domain network profiles). These broad categories are a Windows 7 things. Does Windows XP in XP mode inherit the equivalent network settings?

No because as far as the network is concerned, these are two separate machines. The only way it would matter is if your firewall blocked outgoing network connections from the XP Mode (Windows Virtual PC) Application. Aside from that, they are completely different in their settings.

Is there a way to migrate the Public network profile from Windows 7 to XP Mode? I mean apart from manually. I'm not familiar with all the different settings, and would like to avoid transcribing the settings manually.

Not really as XP doesn't have "Network Profiles" per se. You'd unfortunately have to manually duplicate the settings.

Bummer. I was hoping something like Netswitcher could capture the slew of Windows 7 network settings into a configuration file, which could get imported on Windows XP. I've found no evidence on the web of people using it like that
