original: toshiba laptop with windows 7 home. purchased and downloaded and installed w7 pro edition. downloaded and installed xpmode. dowloaded and installed vertual machine. installed a program to run on the xpmode. ran a few cases and exercised most veriations of types of runs. waited a day then came back to do some more runs. Did not ever like the inability to use a full screen with my special sw. It says it is full screen, but program display is not really full screen, like on a real xp cpu. While looking at options to get it to full screen, cpu, said: catrostrofic error and that it woud take the cpu back to a stable environment. result was in a removal of VM, and xpmode. it appears to be back at some point of the w7 pro. cpu tells me it is w7pro. problem is that while the start menu has VM and XPmode present the folder / pointer are empty. when try to reload instal xpmode , it will not install. when try to install VM, it said cpu is incompatable with VM sw. it does get through the ginuwine bru ha ha ok

I think that I might have a w7 pro installed, but not everything I need of W7 pro to go to the next step. something must be telling it that cpu is not ready. this message (incompatible cpu with VM) came when after failing to load xpmode and just trying to load VM

questions, can i do a sys restore back to w7 home and start over? dont know any other thing to do

any suggestions to not get the blue screen if I can ever get the vm and xpmode on the cpu?

next time I will do a restore point at each step.

my laptop is at work, so can not give its hw details now, but it met the conditions for able to run xpmode and VM. and it did run for awhile until the blue screen

I would use the installer provided in Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 to reinstall Basic 32 bit if you have less than 4gb RAM. This will give you a cleaner install than Factory Recovery. You'll have to download Home Premium ISO, download this tool to Unlock any version eicfg removal tool before burning to DVD or writing to flash stick.

In the future you can more easily upgrade to a higher version by simply inserting it's Product Key in Windows Anytime Upgrade - How to - Windows 7 Forums.

If you want to try running Factory Recovery instead the steps are here: Toshiba HDD Recovery Utility. If it won't run from boot and you didn't make the Recovery media first then you'd have to order it from Toshiba if you want the inferior factory preinstall recovered.
