XP Mode Question

ok i have windows 7 ultimate i have the i can run things as windows Xp sp2 and sp3 i also have sun VM with XP Sp3 installed

my question is this since i have the ability to run thing in comparability mode Xp sp2 and 3 do i need XP mode?

XP mode is intended for Applications that will not run either natively on Windows 7 or in Compatibility mode.

i have LS-120 drive that windows 7 wont format LS-120 disks

I'm not entirely certain to be honest. I do recall XP Mode (integration features enabled) having the ability to use any plugged in USB Drives. I'll download it and take a look.

As for normal hardware such as this Netgear WiFi adapter (PCI) I have, no.

ok so i went to Microsoft and downloaded the 3 files the first one i already had the 2nd one was the almost 500 MB file which i installed it in my program files folder on my HDD the 3rd one it said it did not work with my computer (i have a VM chip Q9550) i go to open windows Vm and its not there

Alright.. lets see..

I suggest reinstalling all those files. Start with the first one, then the second one, then the third one. If any give problems, restart and try that particular one again.

If you still have problems let me know.

still does same thing i go to install the first one which is valadation i pass that then i downlaod 2nd file which is XP MODE 400 MB file install that and all it installs is a virtual disk image the the 3rd file it says i dont need and wont install when i go to start menu windows VM is not there

The first one requires validation, then you need to rerun that step.

ya i did i pass the validation test meaning i have a good copy of windows 7 then i downlaod and install the 470 MB file then i go to install the 3rd file but i cant because my CPU is a VM CPU all it installs is the XP mode where do i get Microsoft virtual PC from?

I'm a bit confused.

This is how it goes.


1. Go to the following website; Download Windows XP Mode

2. Select your version of Windows as well as your language.

3. Click the 'Windows XP Mode' button. It will then launch a popup asking for validation, which will require you to run a file (one time only) to install a package.

4. Refresh the page and do steps 1 - 3 again, this time step 3 will give you an actual download.

5. After that, click the 'Windows Virtual PC' button and download that.

6. When that finishes, click the 'XP Mode Update' button and download that file.

Install them in the order you receive them. It should work fine.

got ahold of my buddy finally come to find out Microsoft web site says you downloading xp mode and virtual PC but your not your only downloading XP mode i finally found virtual PC and downloaded it and it works now

Virtual PC happened to be the second download.

wow man this sucks so i got virtual PC to work finally but its so slow compared to sun VM on start up and shutdown it sucks really it does plus it fryed my sun VM software i lost all my 15 os under sun VM had to wipe them all i have you use them but man i hate microsoft

Never heard that installing Virtual PC "fries" other virtual machines. I'm using VirtualBox, VMWare and Virtual PC in "peaceful harmony", never had any problems installing and using these three. I'm sorry to say but I suspect a user error.

There are a lot of tips and tricks to speed up virtual machines, I have no complaints; my Virtual PC machines run as I'd like them to run.

Just curious, but why did you even need 15 Operating Systems? I cannot see anyone aside from Developers and whatnot having a need for that many, and even then; thats still a lot to have.
