XP on 7 on Toshiba notebook

Ref. installing XP on 7 to dual boot.
After having read most of the relevant info on various forums, sites and
magazines, I feel I have a rough idea what to do so set about trying,
"trying" becoming the operative.
I have a new Toshiba Satellite Pro C660 notebook pre-installed with 7 Pro
and would like to instal XP Pro.
The attempt to instal by booting from the disc failed after loading the
files, drivers and controllers with an error reporting loading "setup" was
stopped to prevent damage to computer.
0x0000007B(0x578D2524,0xC0000034,0x00000000,0x00000000).
After trying this a number of times with same result, I tried installing in
7 which resulted in an incompatability error that XP could not be loaded
because it was older than 7.
Error - It appears that Microsoft, or something, has installed a blocker to prevent earlier versions being installed.
Problem event name - ApphelpHardBlock
Problem signature 01 - (8of 1s-4of 1s-4of 1s-4of 1s-12of 1s)
Problem signature 02 - (29971a54-0501-40ed-b688-d44a8e74d92)
O.S. version - 6.1.7600.2.0.0.256.48
Locale - 3081
These two errors appear to be linked.
Anyone any thoughts how to get around this block?

From what I can see that problem is related to
Norton Symantec antivirus and a heuristics driver I think.
(ie: compatability issue between a version of Windows and the AV)

Try completely removing the Norton Antivirus using Norton removal tool
and then try again.

First check for all the Win XP drivers for your hardware on the manufacturer's web site.
If your Win XP CD, does not support your Sata Controller, you will need to load drivers to uses at F6.
Load Sata Controller drivers with a floppy disk is the best way.

Does that mean that it has nothing at all to do with
AV driver? If so I found dodgy information on the internet-
who would have believed! Anyways, I hate posting dodgy info
I finds on the interweb because then I am posting dodgy
information also - so my apologies.

Have un-installed all Norton (don't like it anyway, too invasive)
Will try SATA drivers, Have copied all drivers from XP desktop but may be no SATA, will check.

I am unsure if what I said has any relevance and if it was either reliable or unreliable info
but my personal opinion is yes , get rid of Norton. Just my opinion and it probably
doesn't mean to much!!

NO, Norton is not the problem, Sata Controller drivers are.

It would be worth looking in to XP Mode or a VM.

Fair enough - I was wrong - again!
I still think Norton stinks and that's just my opinion.
And yes - we have the technology in Windows 7 for VM. But on
that topic I prefer Oracle VMWare, Virtual Box or however
you'd like to say it. Again, just my opinion and I'm entitled to it

Hi there
The best way to get XP working on a newer Netbook or laptop is to download the drivers from News | DriverPacks.net

Documentation for installing XP using driverpacks Beginners guide (Windows XP) | DriverPacks.net

Slipstream these into an XP sp3 (or minimum XP sp2) Disk and install. (You can either use a Real or Virtual .iso or just use the SETUP.EXE in the Windows setup folder).

This should solve pretty well ALL driver issues with XP -- especially video and SATA disks -- no point doing the F6 option when installing as I doubt if your machine will have any floppy disk drives -- and even if it did if the driver is > 1.44 MB you wouldn't be able to load it.

There are some other work arounds but using DRIVER PACKS is the easiest.

Otherwise just install your XP system as a VM.

Many thanks for your suggestions.
Vitualisation is considered if all else fails.
I may be stupidly stubborn, or stubbornly stupid, but priority is to find a
way of getting through, under, over, past that which is blocking the XP
installation part way through Setup.

Have tried everyone's suggestions to no avail, yet.
