XP pro 32 bit to Win 7 64 bit no go

Hi All, I have an AMD Athlon 64 3500 CPU and ASUS A8N-E Motherboard 939 socket. Here is the problem, I have XP Pro 32 bit on the 350 gig HD and trying to install 7 64 bit. I have 2 CD/DVD-RW drives that both work, neither will allow the Win 7 home premium to boot for a fresh install. Is this something to do with the 32 bit xp pro? I have checked the settings in the bios and they are configured for SATA as my drives are all sata. So, what do I do now? By the way, my other computer this whole thing worked like a dream with no problems.
Question 2; yes, I know. When installing a new hard drive in xp pro how do you get it to be recognized so you can format it?

As long as you are booting the DVD to install and not running from 32 bit OS, it should install to your HD if it shows up in the Custom drives selection screen.

Can you boot other DVD's from either OD? Is your BIOS set to boot from DVD drive first? Try using the BIOS Boot Menu shortcut key given on first bootup screen to trigger DVD boot.

Is your SATA controller set to IDE? Try ACHI. Also see that your HD's are configured correctly in BIOS when you check the Boot Order. Then check the BIOS version against the latest posted on maker's Support Downloads page for your computer or mobo model.

The Bios is set for DVD first to boot. The DVD/CD drives will take everything but the WIN 7 Disc. I can boot from the Linux disc and from the Win xp pro disc. However the Win 7 HP will boot from my computer but not from my Wifes so I'm confused. Oh and yes it's set to AH something so it should boot but won't.

Welcome Bebop, since you have a 32 bit O/S you cannot upgrade to 64 bit.
You must perform a clean installation.

It sounds like you are using an upgrade disk for this. If that is the case try this upgrade tutorial.
