Otherwise, you'll have to use the built-in boot sequence to select the recovery partition at boot. This is usually via the F11 or F12 keys that must be pressed when you power up the computer, but before Windows starts.

I doubt the recovery function will work in win7. Try setting the xp recovery partition active in disk management, then reboot. If you are able to boot into recovery, you're set.

Hello kf10, see if these instructions will work for you; be sure to post back with the outcome.

Here are the recovery instructions from Dell.

1. Reboot, and press Ctrl + F11 at the Dell logo.
2. The Dell™ PC Restore by Symantec screen will come up.
3. Select "Restore" or use the Tab key to highlight it and press Enter.
4. if you wish to continue, click "Confirm", or use the Tab key to highlight it and press Enter.
5. When the utility is finished, click "Finish", or use the Tab key to highlight it and press Enter.

Try setting the xp recovery partition active in disk management

This will work. I have had to do this before. If you can't set is as active inside Windows download a program like Partition Wizard or some other free partitioning software and set it as active from there and reboot and you should boot into the built in recovery console.

Do you have Windows 7 installed to the Dell 630m? If YES, go to Bill2 post 3.

If NO, go to Dzomlija post 2 or BFK post 4.
