There's probably 100 threads on this already but...

I've got a machine running windows XP Home Edition 32 bit (with service pack 3), and was planning on upgrading to Windows 7. I'm able to get an upgrade version to Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit through my school. Am I able to upgrade to 64 bit 7 Ultimate from my 32 bit XP Home?

If you buy the upgrade, make sure that you get the DVD for 64 bit. Most retailers will give both 32 or 64. But in any event, the answer is yes you can. You will do a clean install.

You will have to format

Thank you for such a quick response!

I'm basically running it on a partition on a MacBook (NTFS partition). I need windows 7 to run literally ONE application for ONE class, and luckily my college offers a good deal on a Windows 7 64 bit upgrade DVD...This, of course, requires an original copy of Windows...So I found a good deal on a 32 bit XP Home Installation DVD, and put that on the partition, then upgrade to 7.

Anything else I should take into consideration, or should this all work?

You are very weclome cab. You are going to enjoy 7. Much better than XP.

One thing that you must remember, by law, if you upgrade from XP, you can no longer use that XP on any other computer or partition.

You can still restore XP as a virtual environment, using Zinstall or DTV. This way you keep all the apps without re-installs. I assume it works on Mac, too.

You might consider installing VirtualBox on your Mac, then install Win 7 as a VM. You'll be able to run the single application for that one class right from your Mac desktop from an icon on the dock. You don't need to install XP in the VM first.
