xp to windows 7

Uhm would you be able to do me a big favour? I'm getting a headache trying to figure this out.

ECS Web Site

Thats the list of the CPUs compatible with my mobo. However theres no part number there. But I found this wiki page,
List of AMD Athlon 64 microprocessors - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

which gives a whole list of processors and their wattage. However, I cant seem to find the 2nd one, in the ECS list:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core 6000+ (F2)(89W) 3100 MHz (1MBx2,2000,Socket AM2)

In the wiki list the stepping F2 doesnt have such a variant, its a G2 and it the cache is also 2x 512mb.

I really want to get the above processor but I cant seem to find the MPN for it. I also read somewhere that the X in the MPN stands for 125watts. I dont know if thats true.

Man this whole upgrading thing is nerving...

Look at the last one listed under "Brisbane" (Energy Efficient Small Form Factor, F2, 90nm). Part number ADV6000|AA5DO(G2) on the Wikipedia page you linked too. I tried to clip and past but it didn't work?

The long list of "Brisbane" (Energy Efficient 65W, G1 & G2, 65 nm), you mean? Or am I missing what you're trying to show me?

The last one there has a G2 stepping and 2x512 of cash. In his list, the ECS guy, its a 1mb x2 cache with a F2 stepping. I dont know where they got that from because I cant find it in ebay at all or on wiki :S

Theres this other list I found from cpu-upgrade:
CPU-Upgrade: ECS GeForce6100SM-M(V1.0/1.0A) cpu support and features

This one shows the MPN for the one I'm looking for I think. Its ADA6000IAA6CZ but I dont know if I could trust this page, because firstly the motherboard is designed to support no more than 89watts(thats what they told me) and in the above list theres even 125watt cpus. Secondly there are alot of processors there which conflict with ECS's list.

I forgot to say, thank you for your reply :)

oops sorry I mixed up "Windsor" (Energy Efficient Small Form Factor, F2, 90nm) and the "Brisbane" (Energy Efficient 65W, G1 & G2, 65 nm). I typed the Brisbane part and then got interrupted and somehow typed the rest from the Windsor line?
Yes I think the ADA6000|AA6CZ is actually the one you are looking for. Thats a "|" between the 0 and the A not a "1" or an "I".

Thanks again :) I guess the folks down at ECS got mixed up with the frequency too. Because they listed it as 3100 and not 3000. But otherwise, the wattage, the stepping and the cache fit. I've got some in my ebay. Second hand processors but supposed to be working fine. They however typed the number MPN in with I not 'l'. I guess people just dont know or somethin. Thank you for your reply :)

I'd imagine you'll see it with a 1 and an I, originally I wondered which one it was and then noticed the spacing looked funny and figured out it was actually an |. Hopefully you don't get a dud CPU, it the seller has a good rating you should be OK.

Yeah I'm hoping so too. I generally try to buy from people with 100%rating but I'm always worried about the postage. But I got the RAM just fine from someone off ebay too. Its now running on only the 2gb because I didnt want to mix the 2 different bus speeds and so far everything is going good.

Thank you so much for all your help. I really appreciate it :D

OK in my quest to upgrade to windows 7, i decided to upgrade the processor too. I think alphanumeric knows that pretty well haha. Well anyway, I bought it the processor but the fan that came with it, didnt work. So I'm using my old sempron fan that came with the 3200+ sempron that i bought. I dont know if thats the best idea but ive no choice right now.

Is there a way I could test the processor fan to be sure that its not working? Its this monstrous (really big compared to the sempron cooler) Freezer 64 Pro from artic cooling. I just plugged it in and started up and then I got the warning sounds when the cpu hit 75 C. I looked and the fan wasnt running so I shut down. I bought it off this guy from ebay who sold it with the cpu.

Its running fine now. Any advise on the cooler?

oh one more thing, what is a really good free but reliable software for cpu fan speeds and processor temperature?

Thanks

I just downloaded Hmonitor. Is speedfan better? Well in any case the sempron fan is not the best to go along with the cpu. I tested the cpu with prime95, while monitoring the temperatures on Hmonitor and it shot up to the yellow zone with 50C. I think I'm gonna need a new fan.

I think in this case bigger is better. ;) :D
If it has a three pin connector you could test it by connecting it to one of your motherboard fan connectors. It doesn't need to be installed you can just hold it in your hand and see if it spins up. I wouldn't keep using the sempron heatsink fan.

Thank you alphanumeric. I knew I could count on a reply from you :) Well anyway, I bought a new fan. The mobo didnt have any other 4 pin connectors and I didnt want to risk unplugging the semrpon fan. So i attached the new fan to the old heat sink and its working ok now.

The gigantic heatsink has such a flimsy foot. I was scared I'd crush the processor because the heatsink and fan weigh in at almost 600grams. Its working fine now, thank god. I think the difference between the old and new processor is slightly visible.

I'm wondering if I should put another extra 2gb into the RAM n installing the 64bit version of Win 7. I saw online that most people say you need at least 3gb to run the 64bit.

Thank you for your reply. :) Cant wait to load Win 7 on my hmm 'new' machine haha

I recommend that you bring your RAM up to at least 4Gb for the 64 bit version. I think you will be well satisfied with 4 Gb.

I'm putting another 2 gig in mine to bring it up to 4 gigs when my income tax refund arrives. Adding more RAM is the best bang for the buck as far as I can tell.:D

haha :D I'm gonna be bidding for another one on ebay in a couple of days. Wife is going crazy asking me why is it that I'm tinkering around it endlessly when it works fine.
