xp,vista ultimate, windows7RC

Could someone walk me through EasyBCD setup to add Windows7 to the boot menu? I have XP on a RAID array, Vista Ultimate on a seperate drive and Windows7 (todays release) on a partition with Vista Ultimate. No problem with my boot screen choosing XP or Vista but I can't figure out the combination to get Windows 7. It appears the path to that line is incorrect. Thanks... Steve :shock:

That's easy enough! Simply boot into Vista and look at which drive letter is assigned to 7 from there. If H then you simply bring the letter selector down to H when adding in the new entry. You don't have to worry about copying any boot files and editing the boot.ini with 7 since that uses an almost identical BCD file to start with.

Now for two 7's on the other hand the EasyBCD tool will install the Vista scroll type splash screen on them there unless you are booting through the Vista BCD already. I'm hoping to see a newer version of that tool for 7 some time that wiill preserve the 7 splash screen instead.

Once you add the new entry in go to the view and make sure the 7 primary doesn't see the "Drive U" item there. Otherwise you have to go into the change settings and associate the correct drive letter for 7 to see it load when selected from the boot menu.

Win 7 - bad path

NightHawk... thanks for the fast reply but although Windows 7 shows up in my boot menu, when I select it I keep getting a error. It says to insert the install disk and do a repair and gives the path. I set up EasyBCD with a new entry, calling it 'Windows 7 Ultimate' and set the path to 'G' which is where it is when I'm in Vista. EasyBCD lists it as Entry#3, Windows 7 Ultimate, BCD ID: {919.....etc}, Drive: G:\, Bootloader Path: \Windows\system32\winload.exe, Windows Directory: \Windows -----Any thoughts?

The problem was not with the boot file after all. Reading the error message more carefully it said "Windows cannot verify the digital signature for this file" I booted to the install disk and did a repair and now my boot menu is fine. Thanks

I'm glad to see you got that part solved. Even if the entry is 3rd when first seen you can go into the add/remove entries section there and simply use the small arrows to move it up as first and then click "save" to see that at the top on the boot options screen. You can also easily set that as the default OS by using the dropdown list in the change settings section there.
