Both my XP puters were asked to do a disk check. I scheduled it, rebooted and nothing. Now niether machine will boot. I tried to do a repair console, changed boot priorities and nothing. Puters POST, but sccreens go black from there.
Any hints?

Lets think, what happened at the time of the problem? Install something, updates, uninstall something, tweak? That is where the solution lies.

Your right, I scheduled a disk check in both instances. Thats some pretty good deductive reasoning you got there. I git some more help like this and I be sure to have my puters workin ageen. LOL

Boot from the XP CD and enter recovery console by pressing R on the "Welcome to the Setup" screen.
Now type chkdsk /r and press enter.
Once its done, type fixboot and press Enter.
Restart.

Good advice,
I'll say that I did this very thing to one of the puters, yesterday. Afterwards, it acted the same way. Booted to a dark screen. I left it on that way and walked away for a couple hours. Come back and its up and running an being used, all good.
I guess maybe it was running the disk check but no screen indications were there, but it needed to finish it????????? 1 issue gone.

The other one had been getting a series of BSOD's:
bad pool caller
page fault non page area
nv disp
Plus some others, web pages started resetting themselves, constantly. Why I tried a disk check. The puter uses a Stryker Extreme mobo, very bad mobo! Guess I'll turn it on and leave. LOL
Next I use the HDD diagnostic from WD, memtest 86. Probably the mobo again!
