Y does firefox keep freezing & this little rotating aqua blue circle

why does firefox keep freezing & this little rotating aqua blue circle appears. it freezes for maybe 5-10 seconds then the whole window will sort of blink for a second & back to normal. its annoying & i have no idea why its doing it. ive ran my spyware, malware & anti virus programs regularly but it still does it.

any ideas on what might be causing this?

and when i say firefox i just mean my open browser which is firefox. idk if the problem is with firefox or something else though.
