I've had my HP laptop for going on two years now and it's been acting up. It's mainly in the hibernation field and it started when i turned the start up GUI off (saved me about 15 seconds in start up) and first installed Ubuntu. I've read elsewhere and it said that my drivers need updated, but Windows update AND HP support assistant said that everything's up-to-date. I want to start from hibernation again. Oh, one more thing the screen is just a white dash (_).

If all you're getting when you try to start from hibernate is a flashing cursor, then you likely have boot sector corruption caused by GRUB bootloader. You may ultimately have to wipe the partition containing GRUB, set Active and repair Win7 boot, or wipe the HD to reinstall Win7 if nothing else works.

Try restoring the start animation.

Try enabling hibernate from Command Line: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/819-hibernate-enable-disable.html

Check in Power Options>Change Plan Settings>Advanced>Sleep that Hiberate is set.

Check the Performance Log to see what might be interfering with Hibernate or Resume: troubleshooting steps

If these fail then use the tool the Pro's use to trace hibernate issues: Trace Windows 7 boot-shutdown-hibernate-standby-resume issues - MSFN Forums
