Yet another random BSOD

Hello SevenForums. I'm having this weird BSOD problem for about 2 months now. It happened when I was running Windows XP too, though without actually showing the blue screen- just a short hang, black screen and reboot. It doesn't happen during high load times but in more specific situations, and I mean really specific. Like viewing some particular web pages with more tabs of the same site open increasing the probability of the crash somewhat. Also having music playing at the same time seems to have a really bad effect, making the crash happen 5 to 30 seconds after the web browser starts showing those pages.

The information left in the event log by the most recent one is: The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x00000124 (0x00000000, 0x85cc6024, 0xb2000010, 0x00010c0f). A BSOD containing similar information also occurs while viewing photos for a long time (using ACDSee for this, haven't encountered it with another image viewer) and sometimes while idling in the menu of Warcraft 3. I'll be attaching a bunch of minidumps to my post so someone able to read those can get a bit more details about the problem.

What i've tried so far is different versions of Opera/Firefox/IE, Flash player, Video card driver (tons of those), Sound card driver, cpu driver (on XP), all background apps such as skype/fraps/avast/utorrent and a couple BIOS flashes.

After a bit of googling this 0x00000124 code a reocurring statement was bad memory so I ran the Windows memory checker or whatever it's called about 10 times with no errors found. The different RAM sticks you can see in my specs have worked perfectly for more than a year and a half.

It's not really that much of a problem but lately I've been having a lot of "luck" getting it and it's really starting to annoy me so I hope someone can help me. Sorry if I missed some information in here (which I probably did) and if you ask I'll do my best to provide it quickly. Thanks in advance.

the first thing I would do is fit a new PSU, this is the one component on your system that can potentially cause damage to all the others and a 400w unbranded could well be your problem here

get something branded such as Corsair

Thanks for the reply. I'll be trying another PSU some time later in the day and posting the results, hopefully positive. From what I know it's a 3 month old 500W Fortron Blue something so guess it'll be sufficient.

Mine on the other hand is really one to be suspected, being almost 6 y.o. now so it may be shot.


Update: Hooked it up, the issue is still here. The friend that brought it noticed that having the equaliser enabled in my audio driver makes the crash occur more frequently and told me to try disabling the audio card. Gave him the "are you insane" look but he might be on to something here.

Running on my old PSU now, no sound and doing my best to meet the requirements for the crash- fortunately with no success. I'll keep on doing this for a while then switch it back on and test again.

Strangely enough that seems to be the problem. Enabling the sound card, launching mp3 player, browser and there it goes- instacrash. Gonna try some drivers now though with a limited choice for this damn old thing. And I don't think it's the drivers 'cause I've changed like 3 of them before to no avail. Plus the XP ones I've used for a whole 5 years or so.

well if your sure it's the onboard soundcard then maybe try borrow a pci soundcard ?

N.B. your PSU would still worry me especially with your gfx cards demands, in fact your system's quite a bitza
If you did buy a new PSU it could be a quality one to take into your next new build

Neighbour lent me a USB one so I don't live in silence till I get another card but yeah, that is actually resolving the problem. As for the PSU it really is disturbing, PSU calculator gave me a darn close number of 377 W with the harddrive I want to add. That's the fun of tight budget gaming, ya don't know where to start, heh.

Anyways, I was planing on getting a 24 bit card next month or so, just gotta pull it a bit sooner. Thanks for the help icky and I'll keep that advice in mind.

Oh and by the way, 5 driver packages, including one from Win Update made no difference.
