How do I disable clicking items i folders where my cursor is not directly over the file name in detail viewing mode.

i.e. If you're viewing a folder in detail view mode and you click on something under the 'date modified' tab, you click the item in the same row as the file. This doesn't happen in Windows XP, so I was just wondering if there was a way to disable such a thing because I like the detail view mode but if I right-click under another tab it actually selects the file, and its really starting to piss me off.

Any help would be fine, so thanks in advance.

Hi there,

As far as I know, there isn't a way to disable what you're talking about. But I guess I'm curious why would you be right clicking under the Date modified, Type, etc. columns if you didn't want to see a context menu that applies to the item in the row where you right-clicked?

I just want to see it, but if I want to click on the file itself, I'd rather just click on the name because it gets annoying when I want to right-click to either view properties or just to click on the folder or to do other things.

If what you say is true, then this is really annoying...

another problem that I seem to have sometimes, even when I first installed 7 is that when I right click on a folder on the desktop it almost always freezes the first time and explorer.exe has to restart. I'm not sure if others have the problem too.

Yeah, I see what you mean. To address your second question, have a look here. It was written for Windows XP but describes a similar issue and may apply to you as well. Let me know if it helps.
