You can't format with the 7000 Beta?

I want to format my computer and delete everything on it so that I can install a fresh copy of Windows 7 without anything else... I backed up all my things and restarted with the CD in the drive, but nowhere do I see the option to format, create partitions, etc. Is there something I'm missing?

If I am not missing anything, can I use the XP disk to format my computer, and then install Windows 7?

Thanks

That is on there.

When you get to the part where it shows your hard drive and the size.

Click Advanced Options or Drive Options
In there it will give you the option to delete, create, format, anything you want to do with hard drive partitioning.

This was the same in Vista as well so if you are familiar with that it should be straight forward.

Thanks

Thanks for the info! The reason I didn't know is because I have only ever formatted XP but never Vista.

I might misunderstand but Windows7, Vista, and, I believe, XP will not allow you to format the system drive. It's sort of like not allowing suicide. I boot into DOS and use FDisk and Format when I want to change partitions and reformat my system drive.

You can only format from boot install not from within the OS but I think he knows that, I think he just missed the option to do it when he was trying to install.

Yes, exactly. :)

I am posting now using Windows 7. I really like it. Does anyone know if there's a way to view the desktop directly without minimizing all the open windows? I really liked that feature in Vista...

It's the little bar over on the far right of the Taskbar, you can just hover on it to get a preview or just click on it to clear the desktop.

And another way is to use ALT-TAB or Windows-Tab to select your desktop...Or Windows-D

But all these actually minimize the open windows.

Btw, where was that option in Vista???

In vista there was a "show desktop" icon in "quick launch" by default.

I used that option but it formatted it way too fast, it seemed as if it just did a quick erase, so just to be sure i booted with the xp cd instead, deleted the partition, made a new one, formatted it and quit before install, and then booted with the windows 7 installation.
