You must actiavte today? Windows 7 RTM shutdown 1 day?

Just installed the lastest windows 7 official RTM build I ran windows update and a watermark appeared on the bottom right of the screen saying this copy of windows is not genuine. After rebooting I have a black screen and a prompt telling me I must activate windows today! What happened to the 30 day grace period?

Am I the only one with this problem?

just do a system restore. Happens with me whenever i update.

ive just done Windows Update, 7600 RTM X64, no problems with activation or watermark.

Open an elevated command prompt and type slmgr-rearm and press Enter. Wait for the prompt and restart the computer.

try typing 'cd\' and then press enter first.

It's just because it's looking in the 'C:\Users\Boomstick' folder for 'slmgr' why that error happens.

EDIT: Oops, my bad, it's the lack of the space in 'slmgr-rearm', it has to have the space before the switch (the minus sign)..
should be 'slmgr -rearm'

You need to have a space between slmgr and -rearm, like so:

slmgr[SPACE]-rearm

nope, you are doing it wrong. You have to open an elevated command prompt. That is, click Start and in the Start Search box, type cmd and press Ctrl+Shift+Enter. Click Continue on the User Account Control box.
Now in the command prompt window, type slmgr -rearm and press Enter.
(There is a space between slmgr and -).

Please note that if you do this than a rearm will be used...if you want to use WIndows 7 for 120 days than I reccomend a re-install to get the max usage

Did space and it worked! So (slmgr -rearm) did it for me, what a bummer though lost 30 days grace already lol

LOL. Glad to hear that it worked. I wish i could give you my 30 days of re-arm.

as Zidane said if you still havent made Many installations or done any importent stuff in your machine i guess doing a Reinstallation will be fine, as it would give you the 120 days grace time,
But i wonder why your problem occured after the Update ?

I think he had a bad install to begin with and WU overwrite an importaint file (seen as corrupted) with an older file that tricked the activation...

Yeah thinking the same thing not sure why it happened. I had everything installed had system restore turned off was all fine, ran windows update and installed optional Realtek Network Adaptor drivers. It was after this update the not genuine watermark popped up?

At least its working now though don't fancy re formating again for a while...

While system restore is no substitute for doing real backups, I find it comes in handy frequently enough that for me it is worthwhile to keep it on. Also, in W7, MS has put back the easy slider (like there was in XP) to control the amount of disk space you want allocated to system restore, so it is easy to keep system restore from taking over your hard drive.
