I have another post somewhere detailing how I have it on an old HP. 1.5 ghz processor. 133 mhz ram at 1.5 gigs. 40 gigs of space. GeForce3 showing as just a Standard VGA board. And it's my server machine in the house. I'll write up something in detail on it later maybe.

Hi, I have a Dell Latitude X300.

Processor Intel Pentium M 1.2 GHz
Chipset type Intel 855PM
Installed RAM 640.0 MB / 1.125 GB (max) DDR266/PC2100

It has Windows XP installed at the moment.
Do you think Windows 7 would work on that one ?

Don't talk if you can't improve the silence.
Cov, the only way to know for sure is to try to install and find out. :D
But I think it would be alright.

As far as Aero goes in genereal, I'm not even sure if it's supposed to be able , but on my second box I posted about above...it only has an nVidia 6200 A-LE and it works. Windows looks, acts and responds exactly as my main machine with a HIS HD3850 IceQ Turbo. Like when I do windows key + tab, the glass transparency etc...it's all there too.

I've got an HP ze4325us. Windows 7 installs and runs great (1 GB RAM, Athlon 2000+ processor), but the display comes up in device manager with a yellow exclamation and details report (device cannot find resources to start). Tried ATI drivers (it's a very old Radeon chip, I think) and while the drivers do install, I still can't get it to "start". So, the result is 7 runs very well, but the display is stuck at 640x480 and 8 bit color (which is *really* awful to look at!).

Any ideas as to how to get the display working on this old laptop? It works fine in XP, but the problem is there in both Vista and 7 (but Vista would barely run at all, whereas 7 is pretty good!)

DVDLuvver, what card is your ATI exactly? If ATI doesn't have Vista drivers for it, try googling for them. Sometimes, "fans" build custom drivers for video cards and other devices manufacturers stop supporting.

TorrentG, I'm not 100% on this, but I believe all your video card needs to do is support DirectX 9 in order to get Aero working. In reality, Aero is pretty low on resource requirements compared to what people are used to thinking of as 3D apps or high end graphics.

Aero does need a WDDM driver though and that kills many older high powered video cards. Newer ones lack Pixel Shader 2.0 and still other lack obscure parts of the Microsoft spec like certain timers like i915 -- it has everything needed for Aero, even had a driver that worked in Vista beta but it was witdrawn by Intel citing some obscure timer was lacking so they couldn't produce a WHQL WDDM driver.
