After I did a system restore ( Dell) I was prompted to fill in a password. I tried zeverall old one I could remember. Now I cannot use the administrator one a.y more. Only tbe user one. Don't know what to do now. Would like to call Dell support,but inpossible to get a working tel nr here in Austria. I am stuck. It must be tbe very first activating password there after, that I probably used end 2010 when I bought my dell inspiron in UK. Does anybody know what I should do ?Thanks already, Thelma. As far as I know, there is no function in Home premium which disables accounts.
What the system does do is extend the time before you can attempt another login. Try leaving it alone for a couple of hours - with any luck it'll start the sequence again.

I am in Austria, tirol, avillage called Alpbach on 1200 hight and we have a very cold couple of days.

I managed to get round the administrator password issue ( though I still would very much like to find it - the password I mean - by logging on on F8 and than in safe mode, creating an administrator thelma account with a new password.
Logged on after that normally and it worked with that user account.
So, Thank God, I am back on line and found my old friends Google.uk.com and Gmail back but lookes like I have lost all the rest ! A total wipe out.
I don't understand why, because before this Dell system restore, I was asked to safe all my files and I did.
I now wonder where they are ............ somewhere, ..... someday........maiby .......

Hello,

although I have been able to get the laptop running again, there is still an issue with this administrator password that I cannot find.

Every time Windows starts, I get a message from Windows Explorer.

"Failed to connect to Windows services. Windows could not connect to the Windows Group Policy Client service. This problem prevents standard users from logging into the system. As an administrative user you can review the System Event log for details about why the service didn't respond.'

Also I find that my keyboard is funny. The @ is now above the 2 ???????? Why is this happening ?????????

The Keyboard problem is sue to having the wrong language Keyboard - you need to change it to a UK Keyboard, rather than a US one. (Control Panel > Clock, Language, and Region > Region & Language > Keyboards & Languages > Change Keyboard - add English (UK) and make it default, then remove the US one)

Thanks so much Noel DP, at least that is one problem out of the way ! How can it happen that things change all on there own ?

That particular setting is user-specific, and inherited from the Default account (where the default itself is usually US Keyboard).
When you created a new user, and went into that, it picked up the settings from there.

It sounds as if you had a corrupt profile, rather than anything else.

hope you're not in the Pub ( it's only 8 o'clock in Wales, would be a sign of severe alcoholism),
what the hec is a corrupted user -and if so - which doctor do I have to visit to cure this ?

Can I ever find back the password of the administrator and log on normal ?

It's unlikely that you'll be able to get back into your original account - you'll have to copy the data from the Users\<accountname> folders to your new profile. Once you're happy that you have everything, you can try deleting the old account from the Control Panel. If it doesn't delete, then come back and we'll find someone who can help you get rid of it.

Windows has its own very capable tools for almost everything - XCOPY /? will give you some ideas, and avoid most of the pratfalls of using third-party software.

This Thread is SOLVED !

And I am very proud because I did it myself and I had to get into the registry, which I have never done before but it's done.

I had to change things in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE to create a Key in the SVCHOST and some other stuf and it worked. Now the horrible message is gone and I have checked under Computer, right click manage . go to services and applications and click services ; and there it is under Group Policy Services and RUNNING !

So this is now closed, thanks all for help and time spend on this issue.

( PS It started with a crash after a very big windows update (205) and than the computer restarted before all info was gathered )

This is exactly what I did and it worked !


It comes from a thread I found here, on www.sevensforum posted on 17 feb 2013 by PLX .

Does that give you enough info to examen it ?

Otherwise I will look again in my history at Google account to get you more details.
