The company announced changes today in how they crawl sites after warning that the change was coming for the last month. It's being called mobilegeddon already. If your site is not mobile friendly -- that is, if users have to tap and zoom, scroll around, and can’t really make out the text on a smartphone -- Google will penalize the site by pushing it much lower in the search engine results.

I can't get into surfing the web on a cell phone the display is just too small and I doubt a website being cell phone friendly would help that.

No. John has gone to great lengths to prepare for this. Will there be some effect? Possibly, but we will not lose 50% of our traffic. A Guy

The penalty is only for mobile search traffic, which in reality has always been very low.

As Bill has already said we have done lots of work so this penalty will not affect us, with the majority of the site being responsive in guest view and passing googles mobile friendly tests.

People really switching to mobile? So, what going to happen to the desktop/laptops users. You don't get very much data on internet mobile at good rate. You can use public-WiFi but that is not safe way to do banking. I am not mobile except for grocery stores and doctors. I don't even have a mobile that is wifi. I just have a standard dumb cell phone, it does do texting as well as voice calls.

If I can post regularly to Full Site here on a hand-me-down iPhone3 while walking, eating lunch, or at the gym, then it's gotta be mobile capable.

I also notice some of our results are posting higher in Google now. So somebody else must have taken the hit.

I do sometimes use mobile Internet with the wifi data my operator provide and home wifi network (enforced security) with mobile. Some sites dedicated for the mobile universe are well made to browse. My mobile can do VPN for secure networking or straight to internet and is capable 4G + LTE - Long Term Evolution, which permit to browse quite fast on it when the operator have good receiving antennas in the neighborhood with a 4,7" screen. I do stream videos/music too when i'm at bed late and really need to lay down instead having my Desktop Pc turned on. No way to do banking on a mobile phone over unsecure wifi network, but one could set the wallet to buy some apps. Economic aspect of it too!

Don't want the mobile site.

I wish I would stop getting sent to the mobile site when on my phone or tablet.

I have no problem scrolling and zooming. I have not found a mobile site yet that I thought was useful.
They generally dumb down the site so much that most info is missing or becomes to difficult to find.

I would prefer the desktop site even on my phone.

I always use Safari when using my phone for the net to view full sites, mobile sites are just plain crap.

Guys, you may call me old or old fashioned, but I hate taking the bus or the train and hearing...nothing as everyone is glued to a tiny screen.... so yes, mobile use is important.

THAT being said, I do not think that users may try solving their system issues through their mobiles, but then again this may be their only option (if their systems just crashed).
