YouTube introduces 60fps playback for motion-intense videos

With the current generation of console hardware there’s a definite focus on whether games run at 1080p resolution and 60fps. But viewing video previews and trailers of such games on YouTube doesn’t always give you the best view of the gameplay. Sure, you can set playback to 1080p when it’s available, but then there’s the inevitable YouTube compression and much lower frame rates. However, Google has fixed one of those problems today with the introduction of a 60fps option for videos.

Nice, but it will only work if you have a really high speed connection. I have frequent pauses trying to watch 720 videos. I suspect that speeds in the 12Mb/s or above would be needed. Perhaps more. Us pofolk in the sticks can't get that kind of service.

60 FPS? I've watched a Titanfall gameplay at HD resolution and Benchmarked using Fraps and just got 40-55 FPS.

I have 5Mb/s and I can watch it just fine. No freezes or buffering issues at all.

And 60FPS works in IE 11 for me, as long as I use the HTML5 player.
