what do you use for zipping software ? Is PKZip still the best free software around for this ?

for straight-forward working with .zip files, the built-in support in windows explorer is more than adequate.

if you want/need to get fancier and work with .rar and .7z files, then i too recommend 7-zip. it's free and works well.

As far as I know, the built-in app is only an extractor, and doesn't allow you to make archives. 7-Zip is pretty tough to beat, especially given that it is free.

You can zip files with the built in zipper. Use right click->send to->Compressed(zipped) folder. But I agree 7-Zip is best.

more info with working with inbuilt zipper: the newly created zip file will be given the name of whatever file you right-clicked on...

Yes. You can then rename it if you want and drag anything else you need into it.
