This suggests an excellent, free program to use and how to extract an ISO / Disk Image File using that program to the Windows desktop, or wherever you like, for use in any number of situations.
First you will need to download and then install this program from the link below.
To start with, I'm going to suggest the ISO file be stored at the
Documents location in the Windows 7 or Vista start menu or the
My Documents location in the Windows XP start menu, though it can be stored anywhere you like and know where it is; this just makes it very easy to browse to as this is one of the first listed locations when 7-Zip is opened as you'll see.
Let's get started!
I used
this ISO file I created for all this testing and demonstration!
Once 7-Zip is installed; open it's location in the Windows start menu, right click 7-Zip and click
Run as Administrator enter your user credentials and click OK.
1) In the 7-Zip prog, click to highlight, then right click the Documents/My Documents file and click
Open in the drop-down menu; if your ISO is stored at another location you will need to browse to and open that location here.

2) Now click to highlight the ISO file and at the action bar at the top click
Extract.
3) In the
Extract dialog box that opens click the browse button.
4) In the
Browse For Folder dialog box select
Desktop and click OK.
5) In the
Extract dialog box that's still open click OK to start the extract process.
6) You will get a progress bar, when that's finished it's done; at the top left click
File then
Exit to close the program; the second snip below is the end result.

Enjoy! :)
