In the case you just specified the HD to which the 7 mbr is written depends which HD is first in the Bios boot order.
Ah I see... that's good to know.

So I can leave my XP drive completely untouched by putting the new drive above the XP drive in the boot sequence before installing Win7. I suspected as much, just needed a guru to confirm it. :)

    Excellent, many thanks!

Yes, that will be fine. You may wish to add an XP entry to the 7 boot menu.

Post a screenie when you have installed 7 and someone will explain how.

In your case - it is not the same as the tutorial.

Thanks, I was planning to run EasyBCD from Windows 7 to add the XP entry. Is that right?

If it's still needed, what do I take the screenie of?

Just wanted to let everyone know that I got XP working with EasyBCD. I had to download the latest Beta Build instead of the version I had. Then I deleted the XP entry that it had when I opened it the first time and I added XP again and hit the Auto Config button and it works great. I can now boot to either Win 7 or XP at startup without going into the BIOS.

Hi there, I followed all of the instructions on the site and managed to successfully get my computer to dual boot (with Windows 7 initally on my computer and XP as my 2nd OS).

However , when I am on windows 7, my C: drive is my normal C: drive as it should be but when I switch on to XP, my C: drive is my recovery partition of my hard drive and what should be my C: drive is actually displayed as my D: drive. Is there anyway around this? Thanks in advance.

Hello Vlaidler, and welcome to Seven Forums.

That may be due to the "System Reserved" partition that Windows 7 creates. Could you post a screenshot of your Disk Management window while in XP to help see what it says?

I only just purchased this (Dell) PC a week ago and I have found out how the recovery partition got there. I'm just confused as to why its my C: drive in XP.

    Thanks in advance.

    Not easily.

I wouldn't try changing the letters of an installed o/s.

    Vlaidler,

I agree with SIW. If it is working ok as is, then I would not touch it.
