Windows Update Error Code 490 & 80070490

I downloaded that tool, but where does it tell me which one to use.

Can't I use either one? I just don't know what ISO means?

Update: Okay, disregard that. I think I know what I am doing now!

Guys, I thought the repair install would keep my files and all the data. I went through the steps at that link and it said that it would keep everything. It's all gone!

I also thought the ID number was the windows key. The key is located at the bottom of my computer but at least 5 of the characters are worn out. Is there anyway to get back my files and get it back the way it was?

There is no way that the data should have been lost, unless you opted to format the drive.
Even a custom install doesn't lose the data - is there a folder C:\Windows.old ??

Yes, I found the Windows.old folder! I couldn't do the upgrade install unless I downloaded everything from Windows update (which I can't do). SO I did it wrong and tried the custom install which worked, except it removed all my software.

Brink showed me that I may be able to revert back to the Windows.old. I will try this soon. Thanks for both your guys help.
