I did it manually and no errors. I've never had an error installing updates manually downloading and installing. Perhaps there are more updates available to test with windows update. I will check. If there are updates and I get the same error I can run SURT and post the logs.

Apparently not. I ran the updates that came in for patch Tues and most of them failed with the same error as before. So I’m running the SURT tool right now, and will report back.
Update: A log was not produced, so I'm not sure where to go from here.

I did some of them but the ones that have a list of files honestly seem overwhelming, not to mention I don't know what I'm doing with the ones that don't install with some odd message about a command line.

There should have been only a couple of updates in the November campaign except possibly if your have Microsoft Office and/or Microsoft Security Essentials. Would you take screen shots of the important and optional updates and post them here? Or you can list which ones they are.
I guess I need to first ask, how do I install a cab file? When I open it, I'm asked to select a location to extract the files to. I have no idea where I should be extracting them to.

You can't install a CAB file. It's installed during the normal installation.
Why does that come up? All I wanted you to do is uncheck the second and third updates in the Windows Update screen and then try to install the first one by clicking on OK and then Update Now.
Yes I tried that first and got the same old error as before. Sorry I should have said that. Then I went to the catalogue and put in the KB and the cab was the download offered.

Just for your information, you can extract the files to any folder you wish. You only need to do that if you want to save the update. In the CAB for Excel, just double click on the .msp file and it should install (if you have Excel 2010).
i opened the cab file and double clicked on the msp file. I had to extract it to a location ( I chose downloads) before I could double click it to install.

KB4461529 has a whole list of CAB files. I don't think the update warrants the effort to make my way thru all those. I'd like to fix WU so that they'll install without my intervention.

I suggest that you go to the Microsoft Update Catalog and download this update- KB947821 The one for your system is 456 MB. Run the .msu after extracting all the files into one folder. Likely, you'll need to reboot after installing it. Then, try the updates.
It just dawned on me that you already ran the system update readiness tool that I asked you to download/install. Sorry about that.
