When I clicked on "Services" I got the following error about scripts. The VSS was already set to automatic.
I suspect that there are multiple problems here
Try this first.
Open an Elevated Command Prompt, and run the following commands
REGSVR32 C:\Windows\System32\jscript.dll
REGSVR32 C:\Windows\System32\mmcndmgr.dll
You should get a 'success' message popup for each.
Then try the Services again.
Just a Note
If you don't know how to open up an Elevated Command Prompt
Click on the type CMD inside the Search programs and files box. Right click on the CMD under neath Programs (1) choose Run as administrator . On the User Access Control window click on the Yes button. Command Prompt should open up to this path C:\Windows\System32>_
In addition to the above, can you zip up and upload your CBS log please:
C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log
And do the following:
Command Prompt

Okay, I ran the first two commands fine. I was unable to get the CBS log.
Here is what I got after the last instruction (vssadmin)

You can't open the log from the command prompt . You would have to do it within Windows Explorer
Even when I try to open in Explorer I get a message saying access denied.
