The following services are dependent on the Windows Management Instrumentation s

Stopping the Windows Management Instrumentation service will also stop these ser
vices.
Security Center
TPCH Service
TOSHIBA HDD SSD Alert Service
IP Helper
Intel(R) PROSet/Wireless Event Log
Do you want to continue this operation? (Y/N) [N]: y
System error 5 has occurred.
Access is denied.
That may explain it!
If one of these services is misbehaving, it could be preventing other things also.
It would probably be a good idea to have a look at recent event logs - it may throw some light on the issue....
Open Event Viewer
click on the Windows logs entry in the left pane to expand it.
Now click on the Application entry - wait while it loads.
Click on 'File' in the menu bar and select Save...
Save the file as Appevt.evtx
Repeat for the System log
then zip both, and upload them.
I think I did this right. This is stuff from today.
Do you have Windows set to delete the event logs periodically (or on reboot)? If so, please set it to normal continuous function until we've finished.
There's only one significant error in the logs...
SidebySide errors aren't common - I'll have to research this and see what I can find (and it's bedtime now)Code:Log Name: Application Source: SideBySide Date: 07/05/2014 20:15:59 Event ID: 35 Task Category: None Level: Error Keywords: Classic User: N/A Computer: spud-PC Description: Activation context generation failed for "C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Live\Photo Gallery\MovieMaker.Exe".Error in manifest or policy file "C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Live\Photo Gallery\WLMFDS.DLL" on line 8.
