Please start your own new thread - We are beginning to see solutions, but need to check applicability first.
I've only just now noticed a link to the Microsoft Community Forums that Icit2lol posted in my thread. I followed everything else she posted, but totally missed that link.
I believe NoelD is on the same track from what she asked me to post this morning from my Command Prompt.
Ok this is what I get
Microsoft Windows [Version 6.1.7601]
Copyright (c) 2009 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.
C:\Windows\system32>REG DELETE HKLM\COMPONENTS /v pendingrequiredRENAME
Delete the registry value pendingrequiredRENAME (Yes/No)? Yes
ERROR: The system was unable to find the specified registry key or value.
C:\Windows\system32>
It's there when I run the first command you gave me.
Ooops - a typo on my part
the command should have been...
REG DELETE HKLM\COMPONENTS /v pendingrequiredRENAMED
Sorry about that!
Done and Done!! Thank you all so much for your help. Finally no more WU on taskbar! wooooot!
