    Error code 8024200D

    Hi

I am trying to update a laptop for a friend and it is very out of date, and I am getting error 8024200D when trying to install SP1.

I have run the System Update Readiness tool, and the SFC scan but it made no difference.

The CBS log is attached, and any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Roy

    Thanks for your reply.

I have carried out the processes you mentioned and the logs are attached.

I then tried to install SP1 once more via Windows update and it again failed.

    Thanks

    Hi Gary,
    2 in an hour,
    please run KB971033.
    Your licenced but not registered.
    Reboot x2

rerun the tool, the file mismatches should be gone and further down it will now show as registered.
should be good to go after that.

if you have not updated in a while read this thread
Windows Update will not update and I've tried multiple fixes

    Hi Roy

I ran the KB971033 update and the logs show the mismatches are gone and that the product is registered.

However, the SP1 install still fails with the same error.

I have attached the MGADiag & CBS logs.

    Thanks

    Hi Gary,
    looks like CBS didnt complete!

As the original problem started with Avast, i suspect other parts of it might be stalling SP1
can you uninstall it for the time being,
    use thier uninstaller
    http://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avastclear.exe

    IMPORTANT
run the uninstaller from SAFE MODE

    REBOOT

    try Sp1 again.

    Hi Roy

I uninstalled Avast with the official installer, but SP1 install still fails.

I cannot find a WindowsMain log anywhere.

Just wondering if there is a major issue here and only a Windows re-install will solve it ?

    Cheers
