Hi Nelson35,

I haven't installed any updates in a while, because I don't know which one's I should use or avoid. Here's a pic of the ones in WU now.

Silverlight:
Microsoft help videos and Netflix uses Silverlight. It is a requirement in the UK, if your ISP is Sky and you want to use the SkyGo App.

MSE [Microsoft Security Essentials]:
If you have your own AV then you won't need it.

Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool:
I and many others do not use this!

Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 11:
I haven't seen that this has been a problem, but that obviously doesn't mean that there isn't!

Security Monthly Quality Rollup:
If you have previously installed the Security Monthly Quality Rollup's, as opposed to the Monthly Security Only updates, then install it.

NOTE: I would however, make a manual restore point before you do any of the above!

See what other members think also!

I hope this helps!

First, determine which of the three "Update Strategy Path" you belong to.
Those are not official terminology, first coined (and defined) by peoples at infoworld/******** , It feel like it clearly help as a starting point and set you up straight from start on how you'll handle your entire and ongoing MS-Products update process.
Group A are willing to take all of Microsoft’s new telemetry systems, along with potentially useful nonsecurity updates.

Group B doesn’t want any more snooping than absolutely necessary, and they don’t care about improvements like daylight saving time zone changes, but want to keep applying security patches.

Group W, doesn’t want anything from Microsoft -- no patches, no security updates, nada. I don’t recommend that you sit on the Group W bench, but it can be understood given changes Microsoft has made to Win7 and 8.1 machines, without our permission, in the past.

I guess I fit in group B.

Do you run into many problems doing that way? Why not silverlight by the way?

FYI, you don't think Facebook and Google use Telemetry? They use Super-Cookies, If you don't know how to Block them, they track you when you surf the NET!
Tor Browser, VPN, I don't discuss how, I fix & teach not hack!
I helped develop Win10. Insider Fast Ring Beta. I crashed Original Win10 x32 & x64 2 years before it was available to public!
Yep, buggy as ****!

sorry no RolandJS the AutoSURTx64 EXE can not be emailed to you directly as it is a big 540Mb size file.
just click on the link to the AutoSURTx64 file and you will be able to download & save it onto your computer (unless somehow your web browser is blocking that cloud site)

AutoSURTx64 => AutoSURTx64 [use Google not I.E.].

[1] Click the link above.
[2] It will automatically download. If not, click the AutoSURT64.exe.

I hope this helps!

I think school firewall blocks, will use google chrome at home, thanks Paul!
BTW, I downloaded your BATs and the two html pages of instructions, saved on my local HDD as PaulBlackSevenForums folder :) And, at home, will do the wusa.exe commandlines, saved those also.

We used to block those sort of downloads [via Firewall rules] when I worked for an Academy, mainly to try and stop the students exchanging pirated software and pornography etc.

Paul, I finally tried at home with windows 7 google chrome -- succeeded, even my chromebook failed. You might have to go to your onedrive and clean up any minor mess I made in there. Let me know if I left any stuff trying at work android and my chromebook, thanks!

I am glad it worked for you!
It is Snick One Drive. You couldn't have messed anything up as you don't have Admin rights to it!

Paul, am going to need those dism commands to force windows to accept the last round of updates, these aren't to avoid, rather these have to be installed -- especially kb4494417, or is it 4474429 :)
