I'm returning a defective pc to HP and need to make sure the disk is completely clean and all info is gone. I'd appreciate your help is how best to do it. Thanks ever so much, as always. ellenc

Hello Ellen, :)
If you like, you could open a command prompt at boot from your installation media, then run a "clean all" command to do a secure delete of your hard disk drive.
Command Prompt at Startup
Disk - Clean and Clean All with Diskpart Command
If you had an install dvd you could run the clean all command.
No disk is ever completely clean.
I wouldn`t worry about it, they will wipe it.
Wow, we are quick :)
My goodness, you all are fast and so very helpful. When the guy at HP said they'd make sure the drive was clean, I had my doubts: One billion AT&T accounts hacked by an inside employee. In any event, I might try the command prompt thing just in case. Thanks again ever so much to each of you, as always. ellenc
I use CCleaner to wipe drives (in fact, it's the only thing I use CCleaner for). One pass is all that's needed adequately wipe a disk (although I use multiple passes to torture test new HDDs).
Hi,
I would ask them if the you can either remove the hard drive without voiding the warranty or if they can send it back to you if removing it will void the warranty
