Did you burn it as an image, using Windows Image Burner or ImgBurn? If so, boot it to do your install. http://pcsupport.about.com/od/tipstr.../bootcddvd.htm

It should proceed like this: Clean Install Windows 7

Some tips to get a purrfect install: re-install windows 7

Thanks, I got it to get to the enter your product key step but for some reason it thinks mine is invalid. I Purchased the student discounted version of Windows 7 Professional from here

    Microsoft Student - Windows 7

There is no previously installed version of windows on the computer I'm trying to put 7 on.

Then you'll need to leave the key blank, after install do one of the workarounds given here: Clean Install with a Upgrade Windows 7 Version

Registry edit is easiest - set a restore point in case you goof so you can start over. Then activate at Computer>Properties link.

That says I need a valid copy of a previous OS, which I don't have.

You need a qualifying copy of XP or Vista, whether pre-installed on the same machine or retail, to use Upgrade version Win7.

Maybe a friend or family member has one they're not using any longer which you can have. You dont' even have to have it installed, just on hand and not used any longer while it is qualifier.

This is on the honor system.
