Error 1068 failed to start when trying to start services

start>control panel>administrative Tasks>Services

So I went there after some suggestions by some members on here, and tried to turn a few programs automatic(not the delayed start) but when I tried to start some of them, I got this message:

Error 1068: the dependency service or group failed to start

So is there a way to fix this?

Yes, possibly possible! What are the names of the services you are dealing with?

Double click the service - go to the "Dependencies" tab - Check the service names list under "This service depends on the following system components" and then make sure that all the services listed there are already started.

For example, if you're trying to start a service which has dependency on "Windows firewall" service, you need to first make sure Windows firewall service is STARTED.

Showed that in all of the following:

DHCP Client (auto)
DNS Client (auto)
Network Connections(auto)
Network Location Awareness(auto)
Server(automatic)
WLAN AutoConfig ( Vista/7 wireless configurations only) (Auto)
Workstation(auto)

And when I tried to check on the dependcies, it showed:

"Win32: the service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it"

Then, all of the services had nothing under them

Oh yeah, auto=automatic(not the delayed start one though)

I am not exactly sure what you're trying to do. Are those services you listed already started and running? What are you actually trying to start?

Also check this page out if it helps: "Error 1058" error message is displayed when a service suddenly stops

Long story, on the first thread that I posted here, one user suggested me to make sure these are all working and started. But as I turned them from disabled to automatic in attempt to fix my wifi and aero woes, they showed me the message.

Tldr: read my other thread for an understanding thank you

If you follow this tutorial, all your services will revert back to default settings: Repair Install

Read the tips there:

Tip   Tip
  • Sounds
  • Services
  • Visual Effects Settings
  • Device Drivers - Be sure to have these handy to reinstall. They do not always remain after the repair (upgrade) install.
  • You may lose the ability to sign on to MSN Messenger, to solve this problem have a look at this thread Unable to sign in to WLM.
  • You may lose your custom themes due to not having permisions set on the old themes. Go to the hidden themes folder at C:/Users/(User-Name)/AppData/Local/Microsoft/Windows/Themes, then Take Ownership of the themes folder and you will now have all your themes back.
  • It has been reported that you may also lose your Media Center gadget after doing the repair install.
  • Windows Updates will need to be checked and reinstalled again.
