SFC error: bootres.dll - dual boot issue?

Hi my machine suddenly went into a black screen and made a sort of high pitched noise, which sounded like a a video had been stuck playing. This happened when I tried to play an embedded video.

Anyways I immediately sort of panicked and thought it might be the hard drive. I tried to set up a check disk on re-boot but on reboot it says "check disk cancelled" despite me clearly setting it up correctly to scan disks.

So I did the SFC scan and it threw this error about 40 times:

"2011-02-21 10:14:24, Info CSI 00000046 [SR] Cannot repair member file [l:22{11}]"bootres.dll" of Microsoft-Windows-BootRes, Version = 6.1.7600.16385, pA = PROCESSOR_ARCHITECTURE_INTEL (0), Culture neutral, VersionScope = 1 nonSxS, PublicKeyToken = {l:8 b:31bf3856ad364e35}, Type neutral, TypeName neutral, PublicKey neutral in the store, hash mismatch"

The red font changed for each "bootres.dll" error.

Now, my question is - is this serious? My machine seems to work just fine and it might have just been a corrupt video, (which was hosted on bbc however.....) or, is the fact that I have a dual boot making this dll not work?

Is this preventing me from scanning my disk?

(My disk is SSD)

Is the boot animation running correctly? Have you made any changes or modifcations recently?

Please post back a screenshot of your maximized full Disk Mgmt drive map and listings, using Snipping Tool in Start Menu so we can check the configuration of your Dual Boot.

Install, update and run a full scan with http://www.malwarebytes.org/

Run SFC several times from Command Line on DVD/Repair CD Command Line: System Recovery Options
SFC /SCANNOW : Run in Command Prompt at Boot

If this fails to repair file, run System Restore from DVD/Repair CD Command Line: System Restore

Now try running Disk Check from DVD/CD Command Line.

If this fails run a Repair Install

Check the logs and run through rest of Win7 troubleshooting fundamentals

No but I did install a "Grub2 customiser" and remove old kernels from the linux partition which might have caused this problem.

Checked and no viruses etc

Both of these threw this error: Windows Resource Protection could not start the repair service.

And then when I tried sfc /scannow this error came: There is a system repair pending which requires reboot to complete. (I rebooted but nothing happened)

System restore was removed to spare space but I do have a full system image from a previous good time

Regarding the below - I still have to do these but judging from what you see so far do you think it might be best for me to wipe everything and re-install?

We see chronic problems with GRUB corrupting Win7 beyond repair when it is on the same HD. Best if you can to boot them on separate HD's via BIOS and not use GRUB at all.

The error appear to be boot sector corruption which is exactly what GRUB does to Win7, however it doesn't seem bad enough to affect performance further yet. I'd work on getting separate HD's before going as far as to reinstall.

If SFC won't run from elevated WIn7 Command Line, or from Recovery options Command Line via F8, DVD or Repair CD (making sure to use the WIn7 drive letter which WinRE presents which might be different), due to a pending repair, then try running Startup Repair from DVD/Repair CD first.
