Windows 7: Norton Ghost can't see HDD or DVD (both SATA controllers)

Norton Ghost can't see HDD or DVD (both SATA controllers)

After many years using a Norton Ghost boot disk to copy one partition to another, this doesn't work with my new computer. For the first time the motherboard connectors are SATA, both for the HDD and the DVD Drive.
I boot up with the Ghost disk and get a message that no DVD/CD Drive can be found, and the process stops.
I know I can change the settings from SATA to IDE in the BIOS. Would that let the Ghost disk do it's job? Using IDE instead of SATA is supposed to make a difference in how the computer works, but I don't know how much of a difference. So, a few questions; 1) Does it matter what the drives are set as? 2) Can I change them without having to reinstall Windows? 3) Is there any version of Ghost that can see SATA drives? 4) Any other software out there that will clone a drive or copy a partition (outside of Windows)? Thanks!

You will find very few people using Norton Ghost on this forum. I have no idea how well it works and haven't heard much about it in the last 5 years.

Most here use competing applications--Macrium Reflect Free being the most common. Other choices include Acronis, Aomei Backupper, or the built-in Windows tool.

I'm not following you on the SATA/IDE drive question. SATA drives connect via SATA cables. IDE drives connect via IDE cables. IDE drives are rarely seen anymore, having been replaced in the last 5 to 10 years by SATA drives.

Are your hard drives from the 2005 era, using those flat ribbon cables that resemble a man's belt?

What brand and model drives do you have?

You ought to fill out your system specifications so we have a remote idea of your hardware. Otherwise, it's all guesswork.

If your new system has UEFI their is a chance Norton Ghost will argue.

UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface) is a standard firmware interface for PCs, designed to replace BIOS (basic input/output system). This standard was created by over 140 technology companies as part of the UEFI consortium, including Microsoft.
Because you show no system specs that's all I can think of.

Does anyone use Norton Ghost 15? I am currently just using the built in backup with Win7. I have used Ghost in the past (well then it named Norton Save & Restore) and had a lot of luck. BUT I have read mixed reviews with Ghost 15.
