Hello again.. My Google Chrome is pinned to my taskbar and when I click the icon it has always opened a window within that icon.. all of a sudden it started creating a separate one.

I found a thread about this issue on this forum and it seemed to be solved with the solution below. This solution does not work for me as there isn't two Google Chrome.ink when I get to UserPinned\Taskbar. Also when I right click on the new icon and select 'Pin this program to taskbar'.. It no longer has the right click option of 'New INCOGNITO Window'.

I found another solution online saying to delete the UserData from Chrome but my Chrome isn't synced up with my gmail account because it has caused problems in the past so I have no way of retrieving my bookmarks, extensions, etc.

Any help would be greatly appreciated thank you!!

I've just found an easy fix from Superuser.com. Please check the steps here : Google Chrome pinned to Windows 7 taskbar not opening under pinned icon - Super User
1. Start Google Chrome (this creates a "new" Chrome taskbar icon)
2. Right click on the "new" icon and select "Pin this program to taskbar"
3. Go to: C:\Users\YourUserName\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\User Pinned\TaskBar
4. You will see the two pinned "Google Chrome.lnk" here. Delete the "Google Chrome.lnk"
5. Make "Google Chrome (1).lnk" readonly: Right Click -> Properties -> General tab -> tick Read-only -> Click OK

Welcome to Seven Forums juiceimus. The fact you don't have it synced makes it difficult, as that is a fix. I have 2 ideas for you:

Right click the Chrome shortcut> Properties> Compatibility Tab> Change compatibility to Vista

See if that works (you could try other compatibility choices as well. This would be a workaround as the fix is something you can't do

Also, you might try unpinning the icon, Open Chrome from the start menu by right clicking the Chrome icon and choosing Run as administrator. Now pin that instance of Chrome to the taskbar, and see of that helps.

Late Reply

Hi, sorry my reply is so late. :o
I've only recently discovered this site.

I had this same issue crop up after deleting and completely removing my gmail account (due to already having an email account I use). For me, I did some of the same steps.

1: Start Google Chrome (this creates a "new" Chrome taskbar icon).
2: Right click on the "new" icon and select "Pin this program to taskbar".

At this point I went differently.
Obviously you can tell the difference between the opened Chrome and the one that isn't.
Right-click the unopened Chrome (the one that opened the NEW icon when you clicked it) and select "Unpin this program from taskbar".

This should solve your issue (has for me).

Hope you fixed it when you had the issue, anyway.
