wither 2 & my link which is the downloaded executable from that website, you didn't explain what didn't work.

    1. Are you saying the link didn't work or the install didn't work?

You never answered my question on your other post. Did you follow the uninstall and install process for Office Starter 2010? Your other thread System Restore Post #18

If Office/Word Starter 2010 was installed on your system originally, as Bree stated, you should be able to uninstall and reinstall it via the method I posted in your other thread, System Restore Post #18

    2. Additionally, did you try LibreOffice Writer?

It is compatible with Microsoft Office & I open Word documents all the time, can save as LibreOffice Writer default ODT format or Word DOCX format.

    1. Of course I followed the process, but the install process did not work. Msft has told me that the reason is that they stopped supporting Word Starter.
    2. I have not tried LibreOffice yet because they answered my Q re opening Word docs by saying "Don't expect 100% compatibility."

That is what I figured to be your issue with repairing/reinstalling Word Starter!

As far as LibreOffice Writer and your Word Starter, It is my understanding that extensive formatting may, operative word MAY, cause an issue with how the page or pages display. Being that Word Starter is a basic word processing program, I don't see an issue arising for you.

Extensive formatting would be headers, footers, page references, superscripts, subscripts, STYLES, HEADING STYLES, UNSUPPORTED FONTS, OUTLINES, etc. The bold capitalized words may be an issue as well as other advanced formatting that I do not believe is available in STARTER. Starter as the word implies, is a basic beginning word processor, which LibreOffice Writer & Microsoft Word are not.

You can open and inspect the document. If you don't like how it looks, which I doubt very much that will be the case, simply close the document. You can save it as a docx or in LibreOffice Writer default ODT format & many others in the save as dialog box.

To be safe for testing purposes, you could make a copy as you are probably aware by copy & pasting from say the Documents folder to say your Desktop, then open the desktop copy with LibreOffice Writer and play around. You can then save it to the desktop, etc. and not alter the original document in the original location.

Personally, I backup all my drives to an external hard drive with AOMEI Backupper regularly (read my footer blue text). AOMEI Backupper Standard & Macrium Reflect Free, both free backup programs, are highly recommended by Sevenforums.

My preference is AOMEI because it is a simpler interface, i.e. easier to use/navigate. They both perform the same basic functions including verify the integrity of the image (important). You can also mount a backup image you created and copy, not delete items from it. AOMEI cannot access Macrium images, and vice versa.

That's strange. I ran the installer on this Vista system and it installed. However, I don't know where it installed. It didn't create any desktop icons and I don't see it in Programs (All Programs in Win 7). In the Control Panel, Programs and features, it shows Microsoft Office Click-to Run 2010, Microsoft Office Starter 2010 English, Microsoft PowerPoint Viewer. I did find the PowerPoint Viewer here-

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office14

I also have a bunch of files in a Office 12 folder in the same path but I can't find any other executables. It's complicated because I already have Office 2007 installed.

I don't understand why you haven't answered my original questions about Word.

    wither 2

OP has more than one thread talking about Edge/Word Starter 2010.

According to OP on other thread, states contacted Microsoft and doesn't support it any more that is why. Makes no sense to me but that is what OP inicated. SMH!

I tried installing on my Win7 & Win10, keep getting same error, when I click the red x on the error it tries to install Microsoft Office 2010. Gotta love Microsoft!

    Thanks Snick.

Actually, in post #13, he mentioned that msft told him........................ but I interpreted that to mean he got a message to that effect during the installation. No matter.

I had installed it yesterday and then uninstalled it. This morning I reinstalled it (on Vista) and Microsoft Office Starter 2010 showed up in Programs. It has Word, Excel and some Tools. When I ran the Excel, this is what it shows me- interesting that it installs on Vista but not the new and improved Vista (Win 7).

Just for S & Gs, I ran the installer as administrator in Win 7. It installed properly, although it was a little slower than on Vista. The interesting thing is that it needs to download files as part of the installation and it also downloads files when starting Excel. This is the file I used-

    wither 2 & Pkpetr

Office Starter has compatibility issue with IPv6 therefore it has to be disabled.
Can't find link to Microsoft Patch to correct compatibility. Still looking.

    Network & Sharing Center
Next to Connections, click on WiFi or Ethernet
    General Tab click Properties
Disable Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPv6)
    click OK
    Restart Computer
    Install Office Starter 2010
    Reboot
I had to install 11 updates via Windows Update (don't know if that matters)
Enable Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPv6)
    Reboot
Office Starter 2010 now working on my Win7

I had to really look to find that in Vista (I don't have my Win 7 system fired up since it's my secondary system) but, both IPV6 and IPV4 are enabled in Vista for my LAN connections and the installation/operation works fine. Maybe what you're saying about a patch has already been applied to Vista via an update. I'll take a look at Win 7 later. Leaf pick up is at the top of my agenda this morning.
