BSOD/Windows Updates and Bad Image File Problems

Hello guys. The problem started after I did a standard Windows update. I then rebooted and was able to go on as usual. I then encountered a BSOD, and I was unable to get down all the codes. The computer then continued to do a memory dump.

So here is where my problem was fully realized. Upon reboot, I found that I was unable to access the start menu or an of my desktop icons.

I attempted to start windows explorer by starting up the task manager, and starting the application by typing in explorer.exe into a new task. It shows up initially in the processes area of the task manager and then quickly disappears. After some playing around I figured out I could access the files by opening control panel through the same method and selecting desktop on the top bar.

I then tried to use a Windows Installation Disk to try a restore point, with only two available, which I thought strange. I went back to a point before this problem occurred, and have the same results.

I found a potential solution which involved the registry, so I tried to open that. I was greeted with an error "C:\...\ulib.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error." Also noted as a Bad Image on the top. I attempted to fix this with a scanner of some sort that I found, but this also had a similar bad image file.

I decided to continue my research and found a solution of it being a bad user configuration file(s) and a suggestion to create a new account. I tried that which led to "The User Profile Service Failed the Logon." error.

I found something else which indicated I should use an sfc /scannow prompt in Command Prompt, and I attempted that, which ran into an error that had a problem starting that. I now run into the error: "The system cannot find message text for message number 0x2331 in the message file for Application." There was also a solution to take the sfc offline, but cmd indicated that offline was pointed towards the same location as online. This was also attempted through the Windows Installation disk, but with some other error.

Now attempting to post on this forum I tried to use the SF Diagnostic File/Tool, but I ran into yet another error: (Bad Image) "Scrrun.dll is either not designed to run on Windows, etc..." I have spent a couple of hours on this to no avail.

Any help or attempt to get me on the right track is greatly appreciated. Please note, I am a novice but have some minor knowledge of this stuff.

If you can boot into Safe Mode with Networking run a full Malwarebytes scan, check for the .dll in the Recycle bin to restore it, try System Restore to a point before the problem occurred, try creating a new User account.

If you can't get into Safe Mode then work from boot to run Windows Defender or another bootable AV scan, System Restore, SFC /SCANNOW Run in Command Prompt at Boot from the Win7 DVD or System Repair Disk: Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Start.

Another thing to try is to enable Built-in Admin from boot to test if your account is corrupt and creating another Admin-level account in Control Panel>User accounts will suffice, to copy over your files and delete the old one: Built-in Administrator - Enable from WinRE - Windows 7 Forums
