I have a Dell Studio XPS 8000 running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. In March the PC started to BSOD every time a USB storage device was connected to it. Other USB devices like mouse or keyboard did not cause this problem. It happens with two different external hard drives and 7 different USB flash drives regardless of which USB port is used.

I tried to do a restore but the we only had two restore points, both after we started having this problem.

We have backed up all our data to another PC via network connection, before reinstalling Windows I thought perhaps someone on this forum would have some suggestions. I already went through the tutorial and tried the uninstalling the grayed out USB devices, four times with no change.

I have downloaded and run the SF utility as described, results are zipped up in the attached.

I also include a photo of the BSOD.

thanks

EDIT: From your Crash Dumps, it appears that the failing modules are SALVADOR.SYS, SPFDBUSI.SYS and Sahara.sys . It appears that all the modules are parts of Safend Data Protection Agent™ by Safend Ltd.

I would suggest you uninstall this program.

Let us know the results.

Thanks

Well I did not have a program Safe End but it is a utility that my employer uses to ensure data on removable storage devices is encrypted. I did find and remove the files identified in the scanner and so far so good. Funny that I have used that same flash drive with other PCs and never had an issue. Go figure...

Saved me big bucks, Dell and another tech wanted $$$ to reinstall Windows. Glad I found this forum. :D
