Solved BSOD on Toshiba laptop when sleep or idle for a while

Hi folks,

I have a 3 yr old Toshiba L500-1XD laptop that's started crashing for the last few weeks. Mostly it happens when
- I leave the laptop and come back a few hours later.
- I close the lid to put the computer to sleep.
In either case, the screen is black but I can hear the fan running. Pressing power button or ctrl+alt+del does nothing. I need to press & hold power button to force shutdown.

The crashes are intermittent and I can't figure out what the common factor is. I'd be very grateful for any help!

A USB device attached to your system is the cause here, I can't figure out the exact device but it seems to be a legacy Samsung printer or some kind of obsolete device using a Serial to USB connection. Either way that device is outdated and the driver (dates back to 2005) associated to it must be removed from your system.

The crash dump indicates STOP 0x000000FE: BUGCODE_USB_DRIVER and point to the usbhub.sys driver. Update any of your chipset/USB drivers if available. Do NOT use non Windows 7-certified drivers. http://support.toshiba.com/

Reinstall the drivers if you cannot get any newer drivers.

1. Right click on Computer icon > manage. It will open the computer management window.
2. Click on "Device Manager" in the left pane, it will list all installed devices up.
3. Expand "USB Serial Bus Controllers" by clicking on the triangle in front of it.
4. Click on one item to select, then right click and uninstall.
5. Do the same for all.
6. Restart the computer.
7. At restart, windows will auto configure the appropriate drivers.

And, Disable USB Selective Suspense too.

Thanks for your help! I've done what you suggested.
- updated chipset
- deleted all usb drivers and restarted
- disabled selective suspend.

Keeping my fingers crossed I won't have any more BSOD
