BSOD endless loop after attempting to fix USB drivers
Toshiba laptop - windows 7 64bit.
For a while now my USB devices (cameras, mp3 player) were not being recognized by the computer, and it would not allow me to install the necessary drivers citing lack of digital signature, etc. My usb mouse and usb memory stick were working fine. In attempting to follow the solutions offered around the internet, I tried to reinstall the User-mode driver framework service, the BSOD occured not immediately, but after several restarts. Around the same time I started getting pop-ups that windows could not be authenticated. I don't know if either of these are related.
Startup repair states root cause: "The operating system version is incompatible with Startup Repair"
Before the BSOD loop I was able to run a virus scan, with no viruses found.
Chkdsk ran for 24 hours and found no errors, however did not produce a log file.
System restore does not work to any previous point.
Boot from safe mode is not available.
Booting from a system recovery USB (System Repair Disc - Create) opened the system recovery options, but these did not help.
I don't have the original install cd available, and have un-backupped files on the hd that I would like to preserve. I'm not a computer expert, so any help is much appreciated! Thank you in advance.
