Both nuclear plants in VA have been taken offline. Pentagon, Federal Buildings in Washington, DC, evacuated. Preparations underway for possible after-shocks.

Since we're talking Washington, D.C., I wonder if it's leaning to the left or the right?

Whichever way it leans, the other side will blame the opposition for the earthquake.

This reminds me of the accounts that I have read of the New Madrid quakes of 1811-1812, which was the largest in US history. While one account was in a novel, which I admit would be dramatized, it said that the animals were acting so crazily the two days prior to the first quake, that even the squirrels were running amok in herds. That is somewhat understandable, but apparently the quake was also heralded by a large comet, which some took as a omen.

    Earthquake!

An earthquake broke out in Virginia apparently (my brother lives there, he's hoping his apartment isn't damaged too badly...). Around noon, I felt my house start shaking violently... and I live in New York.
