Solved Brand new laptop BSOD when sleeping.

Hello,

My laptop, bought about 3 weeks back, has had several BSOD's when putting the lid down, which makes the computer sleep.

The BSOD error message is DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE.

I have read several other posts which shared the same problem, many of which suspected a driver could be the problem. I have not tinkered with the drivers, but I have had some troubling times installing the graphics driver for my laptop. When I first installed it, the driver would not work properly because the old driver was not uninstalled, and during the second installation many things might have gone wrong.

The driver in question is AMD Catalyst graphics driver 12.8.

I have attached the .zip as per the BSOD posting instructions. Please forgive me if I have omitted any information.

Uninstall Virtual CloneDrive see if you get any more BSOD

In addition to Anthony's suggestion.. Your older Atheros Network Adapter Driver seems to be causing trouble for you.
Look for a possible driver update.

May I add that:

Norton is a known cause to BSoDs. Please uninstall with the Norton Removal Tool.
Replace with Microsoft Security Essentials. It's reliable and trouble free.

Also update your graphic drivers to their latest if you haven't already.

Thanks for the replies, I have uninstalled virtual clone drive and updated my net driver, but was reluctant to uninstall my antivirus; especially since it didn't seem to be directly linked to the BSOD. Just today, I experienced another BSOD despite the previous measures, and have uninstalled Norton (replacing it with MSE as recommended).

The information from the SF diagnostics tool is attached here.

I will see if I get another BSOD in the near future, and update this thread accordingly.

It was caused by the same athrx.sys but don't worry. Let us know if you're having more BSoDs after switching the antivirus

Just had another BSOD after the AV switch.

Information is attached.

I think the graphics driver is up to date (Catalyst 12.8), and the net driver was updated as per recommended. I am not sure if any other drivers need updating though, could they be causing any problems?

The latest dump blames the atheros stuff again. Did you reinstall the latest ones correctly? Now I'm starting to wonder if its compatible with your brand new laptop. How about you disable it completely and see if you're getting BSoDs?

Okay. Use Driver Sweeper to make sure older drivers are gone after uninstalling from control panel.

Koolkat77: I think that's done the trick. It's been about a week and there's been no further BSOD's, and my internet speed has improved after re-installing the network driver, suggesting problems with the previous install. Thanks for your help, and I will mark this thread as solved.
